To the surprise of no one outside of Boulder, Deion Sanders couldn’t help but make the game about himself just minutes after his team barely overcame an FCS opponent in Colorado’s Thursday night’s season opener. In the process of venting about what he sees as people coming after him for no reason other than who he is, he issued a challenge to the sports world that Nebraska football would be happy to accept.

Perhaps extra unhappy with criticism after win that saw Shedeur Sanders impress but his defense once again look awful, Coach Prime did what he does best. Took out his frustration on the captive audience that is the media during the post-game press conference.

“Some of you [are] upset that we got the W, some of you really mad we didn’t get the L,” Sanders said to close out his post-game press conference. “So God bless y’all, you’ll have to wait again till next week.”

Challenge accepted coach. Nebraska football would love to give you a loss next week. I’d love to see it.

Nebraska football could accept Deion Sanders challenge in the funniest way

It’s pretty clear that Sanders just isn’t having much fun this year. Even when his team gets a win he’s more worried about who is rooting against him.

I have a message for Colorado fans. That’s not a good thing. The Huskers had a coach like that. He melted down in rather impressive fashion.

Bo Pelini hasn’t even been seen in college football circles for several years now. Someone needs to talk to Deion.

Even if CU fans don’t see a problem with their head coach going to war with the media every single day, it’s got to be exhausting for his players. And that’s the biggest issue. Every time he does this, he throws his charges, who need to focus on a football game, into the spotlight for something else entirely.

Take his approach and compare it to Matt Rhule’s response to criticism from ESPN talking heads. It’s a non-issue. It’s dead. And he was actually funny and likeable about it.

Coach Prime is never going to handle this correctly. At this point the train has left the station. Instead, he say things like he did in his press conference.

Here’s hoping Nebraska football can take advantage.
