3 reasons why Shawn Hammerbeck's addition to Nebraska football is massive
It seems like it was ages ago that the Nebraska football team was going through a cold streak recruiting-wise. In fact, it was just a week ago. However, Matt Rhule and company have turned things around recently.
On Wednesday, the Huskers landed themselves the commitment of South Dakota offensive lineman Shawn Hammerbeck. It was in fact, the third offensive lineman in the last week to commit to the Cornhuskers and is a massive get for the program.
Obviously, starting to land offensive linemen is get for a Nebraska football team that needs to rebuild up front as much as anywhere. He’s also the 15th commit in the 2025 class and the third offensive lineman. All three have come in the last week in the form of Brian Tapu, Houston Kaahaaina-Torres and now Hammerbeck. But there’s other reasons why this commit stands out.
Latest Nebraska football commit has a ton of athleticism
Hammerbeck might actually be a bit of a project when the Huskers move him to offensive tackle, mainly because that’s not where he currently plays for Winner, South Dakota. At his high school, he stands out as a tight end and defensive end. That level of athleticism should help with the transition to tackle. Hammerbeck also plays basketball and throws the discus. He was the Class A state champion this past spring in the latter.
Shawn Hammerbeck isn’t locked into offensive line
While the Huskers are primarily considering Hammerbeck for the offensive tackle position, his versatility is a point of intrigue. His prowess on the defensive front is equally impressive, making him a potential game-changer in multiple defensive sets. He’s equally good at rushing the passer and stuffing the run.
Nebraska football could land another lineman this week
Hammerbeck is the third offensive lineman to commit to the Cornhuskers this week, but he may not be the last. It’s possible that the fact that three kids have pulled the trigger this week could be an incentive for the fourth. 4-star IOL SJ Alofaituli could pull the trigger for Nebraska football when he commits on Friday
