Just when it looked like things were starting to roll in the right direction for the Nebraska football team, the Huskers lost two starters to injury on back-to-back offensive plays. The biggest worry, though, is just how badly hurt quarterback Dylan Raiola is and not just whether he'll be back against USC, but if this is something that could be a multi-week situation.
Raiola was hurt on a play just after defensive back Andrew Marshall intercepted a Jayden Maiava pass that had the Huskers starting a drive up 14-6, well inside the Trojans' territory. Unfortunately, Raiola was sacked and fumbled, and came up limping after the play.
Nebraska football fans worry about Dylan Raiola after injury
After Nebraska made the stop of the ensuing Trojans' drive, Raiola had gone into the injury tent and looked like he was trying to get back in the game, but so far, has not been able to return while he's limped along the sideline.
For now, TJ Lateef is playing quarterback. However, another injury came when on Lateef's first play, left tackle Elijah Pritchett went down.
As of now, neither player has returned to the game and there isn't any word on what either player is dealing with. In the meantime, the Huskers are clearly playing a very dialed-back offensive approach as Lateef has not attempted a pass yet.
For now, it appears NU will try to lean on its running game and defense to hold off one of the best offenses in the country. The approach has worked so far, but it feels like it's only a matter of time until the Trojans find the end zone again. And then things get very interesting if Pritchett and Raiola are both out for any length of time.
