Never-ending Scott Frost grudge against Nebraska now includes a court date

Despite Scott Frost's claims that he's moved on from his days at Nebraska, the head coach has routinely referenced his former employer - indirectly and passive-aggressively most of the time - in press conferences. Now, he's taking direct aim at the university with a new lawsuit over how much he was owed and how much he was paid in his final year with the Huskers.

As every Cornhuskers fan knows, Frost was fired a few weeks into the 2022 season and was sent on his way with a nice buyout package. However, it turns out that the buyout is part of the problem, as he alleges in his suit against NU.

The lawsuit says Nebraska sent Frost's 2022 W-2 to him with the "present value of the 2025 and 2026 liquidated damages payments" included on it. According to the lawsuit, the total value on the W-2 was $9.5 million — far more than $4 million salary he was paid for the 2022 season.

The 2022 W-2, the lawsuit claims, created a $1.7 million tax liability for income he hadn't received. The other big part of the suit is the "offset" clause of Frost's contract. In other words, NU would pay him if he didn't get another job or would pay him the difference if he made less than $2.5 million annually.

The amount itself is in dispute because Frost's suit claims the offset expired Dec. 31, 2024, the end date of his original contract signed with Nebraska. Since this was before he was hired at UCF, he should get all $5 million.

The university is claiming the offset runs through 2026, and because the former head coach and quarterback earns $3.9 million annually from the Knights, Nebraska doesn't owe him anything.

No matter who is right and who wins this latest fight in the saga between Nebraska and Scott Frost, it's clear the Huskers aren't quite done with one of the worst head coaches to ever helm the program just yet.
