Not only does the Will Compton Curse appear to be a real thing, but it's even more powerful than the player of the year in college softball. Though for a time on Sunday afternoon, it appeared that Jordy Frahm could carry the Nebraska softball team past anything, even a supernatural curse, even if she had to throw a no-hitter to do it. Unfortunately, when the pendulum swung against the defending national champion, it swung hard.

When the smoke cleared on the Nebraska 2026 season, one factor will tell the tale the most. The Huskers simply didn't have enough offensive firepower to contend with the biggest and the best in the Women's College World Series. That lack of firepower had reared its head in the regional, but NU was able to get past that because of the talents of Frahm and Alexis Jensen.

In the Super Regional, the offensive problems disappeared as the team outscored Oklahoma State 17-2 in two games. Nebraska also put up just enough runs to beat Arkansas in its first game of the Women's College World Series, though it did need extra innings to score those runs.

It was after that Thursday night game where the Will Compton Curse comes into play. For whatever reason, the former Nebraska Blackshirt took to social media talking about how the softball team won the national title. Many, many Husker fans tried to explain to how bad that post could come off. It might have been too late.

Jordy Frahm gave Nebraska softball one last heroic push before Texas ended the WCWS run

Since Compton's celebration of the national title that wasn't, the Cornhuskers were beaten 5-1 by Alabama and 3-1 by Texas. That second loss was especially painful since Frahm and her teammates entered the sixth inning with a 1-0 lead. Frahm had also given the Huskers that 1-0 lead with a solo homer.

After retiring the first batter, things unraveled quickly. Frahm allowed three straight hits to the Longhorns, with the last hit being the most deadly. Katie Stewart sent a pitch over the left field fence. A 3-run home run gave Texas its first and only lead they would need.

Just like that, the Nebraska softball team's season is over. Despite a painful way for their trip to Oklahoma City to end, the Huskers know they did things its fans in Lincoln rarely get to see.
