Will the Nebraska football team give their fans a trick or a treat on Saturday night against Washington? If the program's history on October 31 is any indication, Husker fans have no reason to fear the outcome.
Over the years, the Cornhuskers have been very, very good on Halloween. Saturday night marks the Huskers’ 20th Halloween game. Nebraska is 17-2 all-time when playing on Oct. 31. The last time NU played on Halloween night was in 1992, when they absolutely routed Koy Detmer and Colorado, 52-7.
Nebraska ended Oklahoma’s 74-game conference unbeaten streak in NU’s 25-21 home win in 1959. NU hadn't lost on October 31 in program history until they lost to Texas in 1998. NU's only other loss was at Purdue in 2015, the last time Oct. 31 fell on a Saturday.
That last part will no doubt make some people a little nervous. What if Halloween dominance is now over? The Huskers will get a chance to show it isn't, and that, for some reason, October 31 is one of those days when they simply play better than the other team, no matter who it is.

One of those notable wins many thought wouldn't happen was the 1959 Oklahoma game. Nebraska staged the Homecoming game many were chalking up as a loss. NU hadn’t beaten the Sooners since 1942. Nobody in the Big Six/Big Seven had since 1946.
On the other hand, the Huskers did suffer a Halloween nightmare a 55-45 loss to a team that had one Big Ten win in nearly three seasons.
On Saturday night, Nebraska plays on Halloween for the first time in more than 20 years. Will history repeat itself, or will NU go against the grain and lose the kind of game they almost never lose?
