It would have been better if Washington were as good a team as they were expected to be in the preseason, but Nebraska’s game against the Huskies will have all the pomp and circumstance of a “game of the century” showdown. Huskers AD Troy Dannen has already called this game a “blackout” game, meaning the team will wear special black uniforms and fans are asked to wear all black instead of red.
However, the uniforms are just the tip of the iceberg. Nebraska pulled a few strings with the networks to get the Halloween night game moved to 7 pm after it was initially slated for early afternoon. Dannen also said on Tuesday night that when the Huskers score, the fans will release black balloons instead of the traditional red ones.
"When this game was being picked, it was pretty obvious that at least at the time, we weren't going to have a home game during the nighttime in the Big Ten," Dannen said on Sports Nightly during the Nebraska AD Show. "So this was our only chance. We anticipate Ohio State's probably going to be an 11 a.m. start again in a few weeks."
The Nebraska AD unveiled yet another trick that Dannen had up his sleeve for this game. "I think people have seen the field design," Dannen said. "We're going to do a little something different in the center this year."

Nebraska football unveils Halloween blackout plans for Washington game at Memorial Stadium
Last time the Huskers did a blackout game, they painted the N at the center of the field, black.
"But I think the one thing was, 'How can we integrate the skull and crossbones?' And the fact that it's Halloween and being able to do that this year — really looking forward to what lies ahead this weekend," Dannen said.
On Wednesday afternoon, Dannen finally gave Nebraska fans a sneak peek at how they’re using the skull & crossbones on the field. The AD posted a photo of the new field design on social media with the caption: “gameday coming together.”
While some fans are excited to see everything the Huskers will do on Saturday night, others feel the focus is on too much beyond winning the game.
"Now you got to go win the game, right? But the logistics, it's going to look great ... We'll do as much as we can to celebrate hopefully a spooky night for our visitors from the west."
Dannen also of course, hopes that Nebraska will be the one celebrating the win when the smoke clears.
