As the Nebraska football team looks ahead to Week 2 and putting a nerve-wracking win over the Cincinnati Bearcats behind them, their next opponent is expected to be much easier to overcome. That's why the Huskers are almost five-touchdown favorites over the MAC program.
The Huskers will also get to play a normal gameday after being one of the many teams that officially kicked off Week 1 and the majority of the college football world on Thursday night. This time around, the Huskers will take on the Zips on Saturday night at 6:30pm.
When Nebraska does kick off its home opener, it'll also be taking on an Akron squad that hasn't scored a point yet this season. The Zips fell in their Week 1 matchup against the Wyoming Cowboys, 10-0. In the loss, the next Husker opponent gained just a total of 113 yards.
Current Nebraska football vs. Akron odds
They have been big favorites even if Akron had looked better in their first game of the season. However, their offensive performance ahead of a match against a Cornhuskers team that allowed less than 100 yards passing against the Bearcats likely drove up the spread a bit.
Nebraska is now a 34.5-point favorite over the Zips according to the FanDuel Sportsbook, with the total score projected to be around 47.5. In other words, NU is expected to win big and do the lion's share of the scoring in general.
Nebraska vs. Akron Prediction
Because it was the first game of the season, the Huskers did have some problems finding their best look. However, Dylan Raiola still completed nearly 80% of his passes for over 200 yards and two touchdowns. And that was against a Big 12 defense.
The Huskers should be able to roll against the MAC also-ran.
Prediction: Nebraska football 49, Akron 10.
