Nebraska football has had good luck with players with the Shields surname. Perhaps that’s one of the factors why Vincent Shields is so interested in the Huskers just days after getting an official offer. Now that NU is in the offensive lineman’s top teams, it looks like Geep Wade is working his magic once again.
Speaking to On3’s Bobby Schneider, Shields confirmed that the Cornhuskers immediately jumped into the 2028 offensive tackle's favorite schools. “It’s eye-opening for me,” Shields said. “Of all the offers I’ve gotten so far, I would say that’s one of the bigger ones.”
Shields is a player whose recruitment is accelerating rapidly, and Nebraska looks like it was smart to jump in when it did. It wasn’t that long ago that he was a bit under the radar, but his recruiting profile is growing quickly. The Huskers will need to keep the pressure up, especially if they want to pull the big lineman out of California.
The 6-foot-6, 275-pound 4-star offensive tackle from Murrieta Valley High School (Murrieta, CA) is ranked as the No. 241 player in the 2028 class, the No. 27 player at his offensive tackle position and the No. 19 player in the state of California according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

In addition to Nebraska, Shields has offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, California, Colorado, Colorado State, Kansas, NC State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, UCLA and Utah.
One of the most interesting aspects of this recruitment is that USC hasn’t come calling yet. That should be good news for Wade and Co., who want to make sure and score some points before the biggest schools in the state give him an offer. Why they’re dragging their feet at all is a question that only Lincoln Riley can answer, but it’s certainly odd that they’ve shown so little interest considering the programs that are recruiting him harder.
The success Nebraska has had at offensive line the last few months has certainly been impressive since Geep Wade’s arrival. While he hasn’t locked down a commitment in the 2028 cycle, he’s landed the pledges of KD Jones, Barrett Kitrell, Matt Erickson, Timi Aliu, and Jordan Agbanoma.
The next step will obviously be getting Vincent Shields to a fall gameday, and considering how high he seems to be on the Huskers already, that might be all that’s needed to seal the deal.
