Since coming to Nebraska, new offensive line coach Geep Wade has talked a lot about what he expects from his Husker charges. He's also offered some pretty good sayings and mottos that could help make the difference between winning and losing. Wade has long been a very talented O-line coach, and that could be the biggest factor in expecting some very impressive improvements compared to when Donovan Raiola ran the NU offensive front.
Geep Wade gives Nebraska football a different offensive line approach
Earlier this week, Wade talked to Hurrdat Sports about his official philosophy. In short, the new Huskers' O-line coach believes that yelling and getting in players' faces is the way to get them to play well. It's all about teaching and then letting those taught find their own motivation.
"A lot of coaches yell at people, 'get your dang hand inside.' You know what I mean?" the Nebraska football coach said. "I don't do that. I coach those guys. But I'll demand the effort. You know what I mean? The finish part. And I, and of course I've learned over time."
“You gotta demand that effort and physicality or you won’t play for me and Coach.”

"To be great, you've got to be different. And I came to Nebraska to be great. I want to be the best. We're all competitors. So, you know, I think that. You have to find the like-minded guys, you know, guys that, you know, not just love football but love life because. There's going to be adversity and how you fight through adversity. You know, kids are going to have a bad day in class or their girlfriend or stuff."
"You know, we just want to be guys that love life, love football, and I think that if you get those type of guys, you can coach them hard with the effort part, the finish part. So I just think that I try to coach. I'm going to teach the fundamentals, but you've got to demand the effort and the physicality— or you won't play for me and coach."
Earlier this year, Wade made it clear that one of the ways he teaches is by simplifying things. He gives them the roadmap and then expects them to follow it.
Geep Wade could help Nebraska football turn offensive line talent into results
"I want them to come off the football, I want them to play without thinking. I want them to play violent, I want them to play fast, I want them to have fun. And that's something I'm big into and that's something kind of the way I've coached. Try to simplify things. It's offensive line. I want this group to have a mentality in who they represent: You represent Nebraska. "
Wade's comments come amid what many think could be one of the best offensive lines that's come through Lincoln in years. Led by Justin Evans (who could be an early-round draft pick in 2027), there are quite a few old returnees and new additions that Wade needs to find a way to help mesh. If he can do that and his approach is the one that finally brings out success from all the possibilities, it's another way Nebraska football could be better than some expect this fall.
