The Nebraska football team appears to be raiding Tampa Bay the way its football team namesake might have done centuries ago. With the NFL squad announcing a long list of undrafted free agents it is inviting to minicamps this spring and summer, there’s a decidedly strong representation of former Huskers scattered throughout.
This is the time of year when college football players that weren’t lucky enough to get drafted are battling for a shot to make an NFL roster in the fall. For one Husker it’s already his second shot, though this one feels like it might be a bit better suited for him.
How Bullock, Scott and Hutmacher aim to crack the Buccaneers roster after Nebraska football careers
When the Bucs announced their 15 UDFAs three Nebraska football players were among them. John Bullock and Ben Scott were both relatively early signings in the process. Nash Hutmacher on the other hand is a late joiner after originally trying to make it work with the Balitmore Ravens.

Hutmacher had previously gotten an invite to the Ravens’ rookie minicamp. However, he was on the lookout for another team after attending that camp. Now he’s got an official contract with Tampa Bay.
It’s possible that being on the same practice field as two former teammates might even help Hutmacher. Granted, it’s more than a little strange to think of the Polar Bear playing his pro ball in Florida.
There are few other teams that are currently stocked up with as many former Nebraska football players as the Bucs have. In addition to the three UDFAs, they also boast longtime veteran linebacker Lavonte David. He could help show the youngsters the ropes as they work to make the cut.
