One day after Nebraska scored its top Transfer Portal quarterback target, it picked up someone to protect him next year. Brendan Black pulled the trigger on the commitment to the Huskers just days after taking a visit to Lincoln and seeing what Matt Rhule and his program had to offer.

Black had initially set up two visits in the early days of the portal. However, after visiting the Huskers, he decided his January 6 visit to South Carolina wasn't needed. The former Iowa State offensive lineman becomes the second commit through the portal for Rhule and crew.

Nebraska scored quarterback Kenny Minchey on Sunday and hosted quite a few targets over the weekend. Now, Black can slide into the right guard position for the Huskers and make sure that he has some serious protection on the offensive line.

Nebraska scores Brendan Black on the offensive line from Iowa State

Black was a three-year starter for Iowa State. He made 10 starts for the Cyclones at right guard this past season. He played in all 14 games in 2024, making 13 starts at right guard, and appeared in 10 games in 2023, starting seven at right guard.

The monster offensive lineman measures in at 6-foot-4, 320 pounds. He'll be finishing his college career in 2026.

Nebraska will look to establish an identity on the offensive line under new coach Geep Wade. Brendan Black certainly has the size and ability to make an impact on the program's offensive line right away. The Huskers are almost certainly not done on the o-line either as there's several other targets Matt Rhule would like to reel in.
