Insider says Nebraska prep powerhouse 'even scarier' with Trae Taylor, Tay Ellis

Nebraska football commits could help Millard South somehow raise an impossible bar

Jett Thomalla might not be with the Nebraska prep superpower Millard South, but it doesn’t appear many people think the high school will lose a step with Husker commit Trae Taylor stepping in. Some might even say the offense could be better, especially since Taylor is teaming with future NU receiver Tay Ellis, another newcomer for the Patriots. However, what exactly does “better” look like when talking about this school’s offense?

It’s worth noting that Millard South won last season’s Class A state championship game against Papillion-La Vista South 49-0. The offense was led by Alabama commit Jett Thomalla, who, for some reason, despite prolific statistics, didn’t garner a Husker offer. Even after he was offered by the Crimson Tide. Thomalla completed 193 of 266 (73%) passes for 3,484 yards and 61 touchdowns. In college terms, saying that the Patriots will be better under Trae Taylor would be like claiming the LSU offense would be better under Joe Burrow’s replacement after his National Title and Heisman-winning season.

Still, there is technically room for improvement for the Nebraska prep powerhouse. Millard South posted a loss in 2025, and On3 believes it will get through the regular season with a 9-0 record this time around. The analysts believe that under Taylor, who threw for 3,571 yards and 38 TDs in Illinois last fall, the Patriots are poised for a three-peat state title after also taking home the hardware in 2024.

For their part, Taylor and Ellis believe the plan is already very much in motion to somehow improve on what Millard South has done the last two seasons.

Trae Taylor and Tay Ellis give Nebraska football fans another Millard South story

“We’ve been building really, really well. We’ve been very consistent on offense. We keep getting better each and every day,” Ellis told WOWT.

Taylor believes that, despite the team playing with a new star quarterback, a new star wide receiver, and a few new faces elsewhere on the roster, the offense, at least, has bonded quickly and already made progress towards continuing the tradition of greatness.

“We’ve got like, almost 50-something days until our first game and day three (of summer practices) we have made a lot of progress,” the Nebraska quarterback commit told the television station earlier this month. “This is a huge stepping stone for our next step, but I think just in general, too, as a team, us coming in, they’ve really accepted us a lot.”

Millard South did lose plenty of talent from the 2025 juggernaut. 10 graduates signed with Divison 1 schools. Replacing them with two Nebraska commits who have a rapport both on and off the field can only help the Patriots continue on their march for state supremacy. That march’s start is now just around the corner.
