With all the drama that's flown around Nebraska quarterback commit Trae Taylor, recruiting-wise, it's nice that the headlines he's making Monday morning are all about his talent as one of the top gunslingers in the 2027 cycle. In fact, at the moment, by some metrics, he's the best quarterback in his class after earning the camp MVP for this weekend's Elite 11 competition.

Taylor got off to a great start for the three-day event, winning the MVP of the initial evening. He then continued to impress scouts and analysts over the next two days, ultimately winning the top overall award. By winning that title, Taylor is now officially in the running for the Elite 11 Finals MVP, which is named later in the summer. That kind of success could also mean that, eventually, the Husker QB commit will go from a 4-star prospect to one of the exceedingly rare 5-star players.

Rivals analyst Charles Power broke down just how much Trae Taylor impressed onlookers with his poise and talent over the weekend: "The Nebraska commit was the Rivals MVP of day one, flashing a big-time arm, showing the ability to drive the football to all levels of the field during drill work. He continued to show that plus arm talent during his pro day and was aggressive downfield, targeting high-level throws."

"He capped off the weekend with a seven-touchdown performance in the 7-on-7 period, making a litany of high-difficulty throws," Powers continued.

Trae Taylor gives Nebraska football a massive Elite 11 MVP recruiting statement

Those kinds of performances aren't all that surprising, but it's something Nebraska fans haven't been able to hear from national analysts all that much over the last decade. Dylan Raiola was certainly among the best signal-callers to go to the Elite 11, but he entered that cycle already thought of as the top QB in the class. Taylor was among the best, but opened the eyes of some who might have previously been a bit skeptical.

The increased scrutiny is a good thing for Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule and the program's vibes heading into the 2026 season. However, Taylor's increased attention has attracted new suitors vying for the prospect. Ohio State recently tried to get the quarterback to visit Columbus; however, the Husker commit stated he's not taking any other visits and is; 100% locked in at NU.

Taylor's Elite 11 MVP award carries significant expectations for when he eventually steps onto a college field. While the Elite 11 Finals have existed since 1999, the event's prestige has continued to grow thanks to the success of many former participants and alumni in recent years.

The future Husker now joins an impressive list of quarterbacks that includes former top NFL Draft picks in CJ Stroud, Justin Fields, and Tua Tagovailoa. More recent MVP winners include 2025 Heisman finalist Julian Sayin and former Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams.

The next step for Trae Taylor began Monday when he officially moved to Millard South. Originally from Illinois, the quarterback moved to Nebraska for his final high school season. As yet another sign of how locked in he is to the Cornhuskers, the soon-to-be 5-star prospect is living in Lincoln so he can be closer to campus, while commuting every day to his practices and high school classes.
