The Nebraska football team hasn’t been shy about going toe-to-toe with the biggies in the sport for the best prospects in the sport, and that approach has them among the favorites for a top defensive back in the 2026 class.
Camren Hamiel, a player who could play either defensive back or safety at the next level out of Goodyear, Arizona, announced earlier this week the teams he’s still considering after reducing his list to a Top 7. The Huskers are officially on that list. Now, they need to find a way to fight off an impressive group of Power 4 programs.
Hamiel picked the Nebraska football team, Texas A&M Aggies, Oregon Ducks, Michigan Wolverines, Arizona State Sun Devils, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Tennessee Volunteers. The next step is getting Hamiel to choose the Huskers as one of the places he’ll take an official visit.

Nebraska football named among the favorites for Camren Hamiel
One of the most interesting things about Hamiel is that despite having more than 25 total offers, he’s still only a consensus 3-star prospect. However, with the number of power conference teams beating down his door, that will almost certainly change as 2025 progresses.
According to 247Sports, the defensive back is currently ranked No. 45 among cornerbacks in the 2026 class and No. 5 overall in Arizona. Rivals and On3 have yet to rank him beyond where he is in the state, and both sites have him right around the same ranking as 247.
As far as where he’s projected to land, it appears one school left off his Top 7 list was a bit of a surprise. On3 had him leaning toward MIchigan State. That prediction seems to have been way off, as the Spartans are now sitting on the side of the road, wondering what happened.
Things could change there as well, but for now, some in the recruiting world believe the Wolverines could step into the shoes of their in-state rival and land Camren Hamiel. However, the Nebraska football team will do its best to win the defensive back over and get an official visit soon.
