Former Nebraska football star Thomas Fidone has a long road ahead of him to make the New York Giants, but he took a big first step.

Fidone, a late-round pick by Big Blue in this spring's NFL Draft, has a tough road because he never really put up the kind of numbers that are expected of a top prospect in the college ranks. However, he did help himself during the NFL Combine when he tested very well and showed off quite a bit of athleticism.

Ex-Nebraska football star Thomas Fidone flashes big-time athleticism in first New York Giants practice

It took no time at all for the former Nebraska football tight end to show off just how much athleticism he has. In fact, according to one Giants' analyst, it took exactly one play.

"Fidone was running across the middle when Jaxson Dart uncorked a ball that looked just out of reach. Except it wasn’t," wrote Matt Sidney from GMen HQ. "Fidone went up, stuck out one hand, and pulled it down clean — full extension, mid-air. That’s the kind of moment you don’t need to explain. You just hear the "oooh" from the onlookers and know exactly what happened."

Fidone, who was once upon a time a 4-star recruit out of high school as a member of the recruiting class of 2021, battled through injuries in his career at the University of Nebraska before enjoying a breakout 2024 campaign. The medical background was likely a big part of why Fidone ultimately fell to the 219th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

That was where the Giants made him their latest addition to a tight end room that has plenty of bodies. However, it's not clear who will step up as the No. 1 or No. 2 tight end.

If the ex-Nebraska football star continues to show out in the rest of training camp as he did in his first practice, Thomas Fidone could make some noise while making the New York Giants' 53-man roster.
