With the loss of DB Devin Jackson to Oregon and the impending expected loss of linebacker Calvin Thomas, Matt Rhule and the Nebraska football staff are going after an outstanding Plan B prospect in Tedarius Hughes.

What makes their reported pursuit of Hughes all the more interesting is that the 4-star defensive back is currently committed to Florida State. In other words, he's currently committed to play for former Nebraska defensive coordinator and current Seminoles DC, Tony White.

There have been several fights for recruits since White left the Nebraska football team before the Huskers' bowl game. However, the most high-profile fight, for defensive back CJ Bronuagh, has, for now, led to neither winning. That 4-star defensive back chose Florida over either the Cornhuskers or the Seminoles.

This fight could also end in a draw, with neither Rhule nor White emerging victorious. Hughes' commitment to FSU seems precarious at best, and more than a few programs are trying to get him to flip.

Nebraska football pushes to flip 4-star safety Tedarius Hughes from Florida State

Hughes is the No. 314 player nationally and the No. 26 safety according to 247Sports composite rankings. In the state of Florida, the 6-foot-2, 170-pounder ranks No. 50 overall.

While Nebraska, Colorado, and other schools are coming after Hughes, there are some signs that he might not be as flippable as coaches think. Miami Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida, made the "We back" comment on recruiting analyst Hayes Fawcett's post after the Seminoles landed a variety of highly touted prospects over the last few weeks.

Hughes is on record as saying he wants to see Nebraska football during a game day. That's both good news for the Huskers and a significant hint that this recruiting battle won't conclude much before National Signing Day.
