The Nebraska football team is expected to have a decent summer in terms of recruiting, but that doesn't mean it won't suffer setbacks, and Calvin Thomas could be the next one coming down the pike.
There was a time when Thomas was considered a very solid lean towards the Huskers. He may, in fact, still be leaning towards Lincoln, but at least one recruiting analyst believes he's going to become a Tar Heel when it's all said and done.
Over the weekend, things started to take a turn. Former Rivals and now On3 analyst Tim Verghese entered a prediction that Thomas would commit to North Carolina. A few hours later, Sean Callahan did the same.
Callahana's prediction was especially noteworthy as he'd previously thought Thomas was headed to Nebraska.
Nebraska football recruiting setback as crystal balls swing to North Carolina for Calvin Thomas
Should this come to be, and Bill Belichick manages to pull off a come-from-behind recruiting win, it would be the third setback in a short period for Matt Rhule and company.
This weekend, the Huskers lost out on two commits they thought they might have in their back pocket. Defensive back Devin Jackson was a longer shot, but the Cornhuskers did have a chance until he committed to Oregon and then announced he'd closed down his recruitment entirely.
In-state prospect Darion Jones didn't end up following his brother to the Nebraska football program. Instead, he'll be lining up against Donovan in the Big Ten as Jones picked the Iowa Hawkeyes. Now it's back to square one and working Calvin Thomas hard to make sure that the analysts' latest picks turn out to be wrong.
