Nebraska football’s newest quarterback comes from the Lone Star State after one year at a Big Ten rival. The newest quarterback is also one of the most interesting additions to the Huskers in part because he’s full of unrealized potential and has several years of eligibility left.
Former Purdue transfer Marcos Davila announced Friday night he was leaving the portal to land at NU. The addition means another quarterback in a room that lost Daniel Kaelin to Virginia and has moved Heinrich Haarberg to tight end on a permanent basis.
With the commitment, The Nebraska football team gets a quarterback who put up eye-popping numbers with his Texas high school. Davila had back-to-back 3,000-yard passing seasons at Midland (Texas) Legacyand picked Purdue in part because the Boilermakers’ offensive coordinator, Graham Harrell, had heavily recruited the state at various stops. A four-star recruit according to 247 Sports and Rivals, Davila threw for 9,101 yards and 93 touchdowns during his high school career.
Nebraska football takes advantage of previous Dana Holgorsen stops
It appears the Huskers leaned - at least a little bit - on new offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen’s previous experiences. Davila had an offer from Houston when Holgorsen was still the Cougars' head coach.
Marcos Davila didn’t play a down for Purdue this past season and will, therefore be able to redshirt, which means he has four years of eligibility left. He’s also an interesting add for the Nebraska football team because of the youth of the quarterback room. He’ll compete in 2025 with true freshman TJ Lateef for the backup spot behind Dylan Raiola. Beyond that, it’s possible NAIA transfer Jalyn Gramstad could get another year from the NCAA on appeal, though that’s not yet a done deal.
