As Nebraska football kicks off its third spring practice under head coach Matt Rhule, it’s far more business as usual than it feels like it’s been in the past. However, there are still some things of note for Husker fans to pay attention to, even as things are still ramping up.
For starters, there are a couple of Husker players that have officially changed position. This is hardly a big shock, what with the departures through the transfer portal this winter and the need for coaches to reevaluate where someone is playing and where they might stick with the 105-man roster limit put in place this fall.
Five Nebraska football players have new or “offiically official” positions on the new roster released this week. While most are no brainers, there are a few that stick out and will be interesting to watch as practice moves forward.

Several Nebraska football players switch positions
At the top of the list is sophomore Jaidyn Doss who is officially back to being a wide receiver. He had moved to the defensive secondary last year after arriving in Lincoln at wideout.
Redshirt freshman Roger Gradney began his Cornhuskers career as a defensive back but was shifted to linebacker during the 2024 campaign. While he missed all of last season due to injury, the coaches apparently believe that move is his best fit as the roster shows he’s officially a linebacker.
Carter Nelson, who came in last year as a kind if hybrid who was listed at wide receiver is making the move to tight end officially. Of course, it’s going to be at least this fall before we see how that move benefits him as he’s still recovering from hip surgery and will not practice this spring.
One of the more interesting developments is redshirt freshman Connor Schutt. He worked all last season as a tight end, however, this spring he’s been officially moved to linebacker. That will definitely be one to watch.
And finally, redshirt freshman Jordan Ochoa came into the Nebraska football program as a defensive lineman, but he also is now moved to the linebacker unit. The defensive moves, especially appear to be John Butler putting his personal touch on the unit after taking over as defensive coordinator this winter.
