While the Nebraska football team has been losing some valuable players on its defensive front, it looks like it might have an in with one of the newest entries, who could be among the most sought-after defenders.

On Tuesday morning Missouri True Freshman EDGE Williams Nwaneri informed On3 that he plans to enter the portal. The defender is a former 5-star prospect who was not only the No. 1 player in Missouri and the No. 1 EDGE player in his class, but he was also the No. 7 player in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

While there are bound to be dozens of programs who are looking at finding a way to land the Lee’s Summit North star, the Nebraska football team has a secret weapon. Not only is a former teammate on the squad in Isaiah Mozee, but so his Nwaneri’s former coach, Jamar Mozee.

While the Mozees have a close relationship with the Missouri native, it’s also not as though the Huskers are reliant on them reeling him in. Before he committed to the Tigers, he gave NU a long look and even took a few trips to Lincoln to see what the program was all about.

The true freshman didn’t get a ton of playing time with Missouri in 2024. The 6-foot-6, 2455 pound defender got just 38 snaps, totally 2 tackles and a sack. He appeared in 4 games, meaning that he’ll keep his redshirt and have four years to play with the Nebraska football program or any other team he joins.
