This week continues to be one heck of a roller coaster ride for Nebraska football. On the same day that Matt Rhule looks like he’s about to lock in another Top 25 recruiting class, he’s also got to officially start the search for not just a defensive coordinator but also a defensive line coach.
On Wednesday morning, Terrance Knighton reportedly said his final goodbyes to Husker players as he followed Tony White to Florida State. It’s a move that’s been expected since White left on Monday, but there were some rumblings that NU might have finagled a way to keep him.
On the other hand, the writing for the Nebraska football assistant coach was very much on the wall considering just how many defensive line players announced this week they would enter the portal when it opens next Monday.
Nebraska football loses another assistant in Terrance Knighton
On Tuesday night, yet another lineman in James Williams announced he was leaving, which made just about everyone who had an impact on the Huskers defensive front in the past two years.
The question now is just how many of them can realistically follow White and Knighton to Florida State. It’s a safe bet that’s the plan for many if not most. However, the Seminoles are operating under the same 105 man roster limit as everyone else in 2025.
The other big question of course, is where does Nebraska football go for its next defensive line coach. It’s safe to say the Huskers will hire their next defensive coordinator first.
