With the release of former Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos' new book, "Crab Creek Chronicles: From the Wheat Fields to the Ball Fields and Beyond," several stories of past Husker failures have popped up again. Those stories, such as what Moos claims went on when he interviewed Scott Frost for the head coach job, have received more illumination.
One big claim Moos made is that Frost was the driving force behind trying to get the 2021 matchup against Oklahoma canceled. While Husker fans know that Frost was one of the people pushing for it, most assumed Moos was in favor as well. However, as the former AD tells it, he was totally against it, and Frost even went around him to his superiors to get the matchup with the Sooners called off.
While quite a few of Moos' claims in his book come off as extremely self-serving, On3 writer and Nebraska insider Steve Sipple confirmed on Tuesday that Frost worked quite hard to get support for canceling the Oklahoma game because he was afraid they'd lose and it might cost him his job.
"Frost called me twice and said, ' hey what do you think if I cancelled the Oklahoma game,'"

Steve Sipple says Frost called twice seeking support to scrap the Nebraska-Oklahoma game
Appearing on his show on 93.7 The Ticket, Sipple explained the Huskers' head coach contacted him several times in an effort to get local media behind his plan.
"I don't want to throw Frost under the bus," the host beng. "But I can say Frost called me twice and said, 'Hey, what do you think if I cancel the Oklahoma game?' He called me once, and I thought he was kidding, and he wasn't. And I said, 'He said, would you back me on this?' And I said, 'No. I'm not going to back you on this. I don't think it's a good idea.'"
Frost was unperturbed despite being told many times by many people that it wasn't a good idea.
"Then he called me back a few weeks later and said, 'Hey, have you thought about it?' And I was like, 'No, I didn't really have to think about it. It's tricky. You're not going to be able to do this.'"
It's not clear how early in the process these phone calls were made. Still, Moos details that at one point, Nebraska higher-ups were convinced to cancel the game to the point where then Chancellor Ronnie Green and then President Ted Carter told Moos the game would be canceled.
Eventually, cooler heads prevailed, Moos got his way, and Scott Frost didn't. While Nebraska lost that game to Oklahoma, the Huskers showed the kind of fight Frost didn't believe they had. The degree to which the former Huskers' head coach worked to sully the program's name continues to be shocking.
