With the 2027 recruiting cycle just over a month from wrapping up, it’s never too early for Nebraska to start working on the 2029 class. Among the people they’ve started working on is Rocky Sharp, a talented running back.
The Huskers will host Sharp for the Ohio State game in mid-November. On3’s Bryan Munson reported earlier this week. The back will be visiting NU when the Huskers play their final home game of the year. He’ll almost certainly be part of a big group, though it’s hard to know whether that group will be bigger than the dozens of prospects expected in Lincoln on Halloween for the Washington game.
Nebraska doesn’t have many 2029 prospects anywhere near visiting. That could change by November 21, but for now, Sharp will be one of the guys who gets a lot of focus as the Cornhuskers start getting their foot in the door.
Sharp is a 4-star running back/athlete in the 2029 recruiting class. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound prospect plays for De Smet Jesuit High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Sharp has lined up at running back, wide receiver and in the return game for De Smet, with recruiting services currently projecting him primarily as a running back.
Sharp is ranked as the No. 51 player in the 2029 class, the No. 2 player at his position and the No. 1 player in the state of Missouri according to the latest Rivals Industry Rankings. Being that highly ranked so early in the cycle means plenty of teams besides Nebraska are already coming after him.
Sharp has accumulated at least eight scholarship offers during his recruitment. His reported offer list includes Arkansas State, Colorado State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri State, Purdue, and Wisconsin. Sharp has also publicly announced offers from Arkansas State and Missouri State.
As a freshman at De Smet in 2025, Sharp rushed 41 times for 395 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 9.6 yards per carry. He also caught eight passes for 68 yards and returned 12 kicks for 394 yards. Sharp’s freshman season included a 99-yard kickoff return, which is tied for the longest return in De Smet’s school record book. Overall, he produced just over 857 yards from rushing, receiving, and returns in his first varsity season.
Through De Smet’s 2026 sophomore season, Sharp has continued to contribute as a runner, receiver, and one of the Spartans’ most dangerous return specialists. His biggest receiving performance came in a 49-36 victory over St. Louis University, when he caught seven passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. Sharp has been especially productive in the return game: he had a 72-yard punt return that set up a touchdown against Lift for Life, and on October 23 he returned both a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns against Lutheran North.
Given the numbers he’s put up, it’s not hard to see why Nebraska wants Rocky Sharp to Lincoln as soon as possible.
