Whether it’s the 105 man roster limit or simply a change in the way the Nebraska football team is recruiting the state, there are several top prospects in the area that are seeing quite a bit of interest from outside the borders, while waiting on an offer from the Cornhuskers.

Omaha North’s Darion Jones happens to be one of those players. And like several others, he’s on the cusp of being a player that Matt Rhule and company might find themselves wishing they had come calling sooner.

On Monday morning, Jones received an official offer from the Wisconsin Badgers. That makes two Big Ten rivals of the Nebraska football team that have come calling. The Minnesota Golden Gophers are the other. They received an unofficial visit from Jones last week, who appears to be ramping things up on the recruiting front as more offers start pouring in.

Nebraska football Big Ten rivals come calling for Omaha North’s Darion Jones

Jones, a 3-star cornerback with Omaha North has had other Power 4 teams come calling in the last few months as well. At the moment, it appears Iowa State is the front runner. On3 has the Cyclones with an 83% chance of landing his commitment.

It’s good, actually that Nebraska football isn’t coming calling simply because Big Ten rivals are showing interest in players. On the other hand, in a situation like this, the question is always going to be whether there’s been a mistake in the evaluation.

With guys like Braylen Warren standing out alongside Darion Jones, it becomes a big question.
