Nebraska football might be in the middle of another Teddy Rezac situation with Omaha Westside quarterback Braylen Warren.
Warren, a 2027 quarterback prospect, has seen his stock rising over the last few weeks. Earlier this week, the signal-caller reported an offer from the Oklahoma State Cowboys. That marks the second Power 4 offer over the last couple of weeks. Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Kansas State have all come calling. Interestingly enough, all three teams from the old Big 8.
There is still one big offer missing. The Nebraska football team hasn’t offered Braylen Warren. Sooner or later, people are going to start wondering quite loudly why two teams that almost made the playoffs, and a third squad that has been a Big 12 power over the years think the Omaha product is worth a scholarship and the Huskers aren’t.
Nebraska football finds itself in another Teddy Rezac situation
For those not familiar, Teddy Rezac was a home grown prospect who had voiced his desire to go to Nebraska for quite some time. However, for whatever reason, head coach Matt Rhule didn’t extend him an offer until very late in the process.
Rezac eventually went to Notre Dame. Rhule admitted that he missed and made a mistake.
Obviously, he’s not going to get every scholarship offer right. Especially in a state where the talent level is improving, but even the best players at the biggest schools aren’t always guaranteed Power 4 players. The saga of Isaiah McMorris and Dae’Vonn Hall illustrated that quite well.
Both wide receivers were massive prospects out of Bellevue West. McMorris recently transferred to a school that was in the FCS last year. Hall went to Division II Kearney.
Why Braylen Warren hasn’t gotten an offer yet is still a bit of a mystery. It’s not as though the Cornhuskers have a quarterback locked in for that class. Certainly, they’re aiming for Trae Taylor (the No. 33 player in his class) but he’s far from a given.
If the Nebraska football team waits much longer to offer Braylen Warren, he might be headed elsewhere. That might not bite Rhule in the butt in the end. Or it could be a big miss.
