What could be massive couple of weeks for the Nebraska football team recruiting wise kicked off a bit earlier than the Huskers coaches and fans expected. Leon Noil Jr. was expected to announce his commitment on July 7. However, he moved that timeline up by a week on Monday afternoon and gave his pledge to the Cornhuskers.

That outcome was a double surprise for Husker fans as it also came while there were plenty of experts who believed that the 3-star offensive tackle out of Lousiana was starting to lean towards Mississippi State. If that was the case the Matt Rhule and his staff worked to fix it, they did that and then some.

Nebraska football secure surprise July-week OT pledge, edging Mississippi State for Leon Noil Jr.

While Noil is considered a little undersized for collegiate offensive tackle -the position he plays he high school - he’ll be encouraged to move inside. He’s also shown the athleticism that Nebraska football coaches clearly saw something that was very much worth going out and getting.

The other reason why the Huskers are quite high on the prospect is because of where he’s learned and grown in high school.

Noil plays for Edna Karr, routinely one of the best teams in Louisiana and the nation. Last year, the school, finished 14-0 and won the Division I Select state title. All but one of its wins came by double digits. This was a team that absolutely dominated its competition and did so thanks in large part to a road grader offensive line.

It’s also a program that sends plenty of players to Power 4 conferences. Two of Edna Karr’s stars, are committed to LSU. Another is committed to Texas.

Leon Noil Jr. is now another Edna Karr prospect who has committed to some of the best of the best. He’s also one of two commits the Nebraska football team could land on Monday as Claude Mpouma will announce on Monday evening.
