Nebraska football's 2026 signing class so far is relatively small; however, with the final signing day coming next month, Matt Rhule and Co. could add a talented player in Daamad Lewis to make things look better.
Lewis is a 4-star defensive lineman who was, in fact, a Florida State signing back in December. However, not long after he officially became a Seminole, he had second thoughts and was eventually released from his pledge. Now, the Myers Park (NC) prospect could become a Husker.
247Sports' Anna Adams reported on Thursday that Daamad Lewis is close to committing to his new school. Nebraska is a finalist for the 6-foot-4, 245-pound defender.

Nebraska recruiting targets former Florida State signee Daamad Lewis
The Cornhuskers haven't won it yet, though. Matt Rhule and his staff will need to fight off both North Carolina State and Texas.
Nebraska's 2026 recruiting class is among the worst in the nation, in part because it's also among the smallest, with just 11 signees. However, Rhule has had a two-pronged approach by filling some of the gaps with 16 Transfer Portal signees. Now he's looking to finish out strong with a couple more players at positions of great need when the February signing date rolls around.
In addition to Lewis, the Huskers are still pursuing Louisiana defensive lineman Dylan Berymon. It's clear the coaching staff still believes it needs to bolster the defensive line and would love to add both players next month and then immediately move to seeing how much of an impact they could have as true freshmen.
Lewis took a visit to Nebraska in October, and he visited both North Carolina and Texas this past fall. His announcement could come at any time, as he's not expected to take any more visits before he chooses his new school. The race for his services could also come down to signing day on February 4.
