Things are getting very interesting for the Nebraska football team as we approach the end of June. One big twist is that Matt Rhule and company are hosting a mid-week visitor in the form of former Michigan State commit Khalil Terry.

Terry had been pledged to the Spartans since a surprise visit to East Lansing on December 1, 2024. Considering that he’s a 2027 recruit, that was extremely early, and his recruitment has taken off over the last few months. In some regards, Terry’s situation is similar to QB commit Trae Taylor, which could make Husker fans a bit nervous.

For now, though, Nebraska football's focus is on taking advantage of a Big Ten squad that lost a big commitment. It just happens to be the only player committed to MSU from the 2027 class.

Most importantly, Khalil Terry’s pledge came months before the On3 Top 300 rankings were released, and once they were, the Tustin (Tustin, CA) safety started seeing more teams show interest in his services.

The four-star defensive back, who is the No. 145 player, No. 14 safety, and No. 16 player in California according to On3’s industry rankings, is being pursued by plenty of Power programs outside of Nebraska.

Terry, at the time of his commitment to Michigan State, held offers from Tennessee, Nebraska, Utah, and Washington, among others. He has since picked up offers from Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Oregon.

The Nebraska football team will be the team that gets the next crack at convincing him that Lincoln is the place to play. It would behoove Khalil Terry to wait to pull the trigger on another commitment for a while.

However, at the very least, Matt Rhule and his staff want to ensure they have a foot in the door as he considers his next move.
