The tiff over Millard South using Trae Taylor too much seems to have been a decade ago. In reality, it was just a few weeks ago, yet as the Nebraska commit continues to rack up monster numbers, any uproar over how often he touches the ball has faded. Instead, people are starting to stand back and marvel at how many yards and touchdowns he scores every single week.
This past game would have provided eye-popping statistics if they weren’t very similar to games he’s already played. Still, Matt Rhule and his gang have to be licking their chops watching him mangle opponents. This last game was another where he showed what the Huskers are getting when he sets foot on campus next January.
In last week’s wild 49-47 victory over Omaha North, the signal caller proved once again why he’s one of the country’s most elite at the position and not just the best in the state.
Taylor accounted for 428 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns in the win for the Patriots, moving Nebraska’s No. 1 ranked high school team to 5-0 on the season.

Taylor showed that he continues to hurt players in many different ways. The future Nebraska starter completed 25-of-33 for 295 yards and 4 touchdowns. When he decided to pull it down and run, he tallied 133 yards on 16 carries and another three TDs.
Quick math shows that Taylor had a hand in every single touchdown Millard South scored.
Taylor’s numbers through five games have been incredibly impressive: the Nebraska pledge has completed 106-of-173 passes for 1,471 yards, 18 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. On the ground, Taylor has been very effective, rushing for 473 yards on 84 touches and scoring 8 times. In all, Taylor has accounted for 1,944 all-purpose yards and 26 total scores in five games.
All of this shows the hype around Taylor has been well earned. The quarterback is a 5-star prospect in the 2027 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound star transferred to Millard South over the winter from Carmel Catholic in Mundelein, Illinois, for his senior season. Taylor committed to Nebraska on May 1, 2025, choosing the Cornhuskers over finalists Illinois, LSU, and Texas A&M, and has since emerged as one of the most prominent peer recruiters in Nebraska’s class, even as teams like Ohio State continue to try to flip him.
As a junior at Carmel Catholic last fall, Taylor threw for 3,571 yards, 38 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions on 205 of 251 passes, completing 81.7 percent of his attempts. He also rushed 77 times for 633 yards and 12 touchdowns, giving him 4,204 yards of total offense and 50 total touchdowns while leading Carmel Catholic to an 8-3 record and the second round of the Illinois Class 7A playoffs.
Taylor will lead an explosive Patriots offense against Millard West on October 2 as he begins the home stretch of his final season before signing with Nebraska in December.
