While the Nebraska football team has rolled to a 3-0 record, its 2027 quarterback commit is having quite the season himself. Trae Taylor is, in fact, having the kind of season rarely seen in the state, even at a juggernaut like Millard South.
On Friday Night, the 5-star signal caller hit 1,000 all-purpose yards four games into the season thanks to perhaps his best performance of a stellar season against Cardinal Ritter in Missouri. Taylor threw for 330 yards and ran for 143 yards. He tossed 5 touchdowns while running for 3 more scores.
His latest incredible outing means that four games into the season, the Nebraska commit has thrown for 965 yards and 13 touchdowns, with 343 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns, for 1,308 yards and 16 touchdowns across the season. Perhaps most impressive is that he’s continued to put up insane numbers after a Week 1 outing where he emerged banged up, and the discussion around his bumps and bruises sparked a mini-controversy.
Taylor’s start to the season, despite being one of the best in the country, isn’t all that surprising. The No. 1 quarterback in the nation, Taylor transferred from Carmel Catholic to Millard South in the offseason. During his junior year with the Corsairs, the star quarterback threw for 3,571 yards and 38 touchdowns. Taylor also ran for 12 touchdowns, totaling 633 yards on 77 carries.

Since committing to Nebraska, he’s repeatedly told anyone who will listen that his recruiting is shut down. That’s despite several Power 4 programs coming after him hard.
“So for me, my heart is with Nebraska. I know I’m locked in. I want everyone else to know. And I have such a strong relationship with Coach Rhule and that staff. If they didn’t think Nebraska was the best fit for me, they would tell me.” Taylor told Rivals last October.
That hasn’t stopped teams from recruiting him, even while he plays just 50 miles from his college team. He even moved to Lincoln and commutes to school to stay as close to the Huskers as possible.
Still, Ohio State is the latest team that’s made a real push for the Nebraska commit. Given the numbers he’s already put up in four games with his new high school, it’s not hard to see why so many programs want Trae Taylor. For Matt Rhule and company, his continued performance in his senior year is a sign of just how big the recruiting win is for the 2027 class.
