The Nebraska football team is moving quickly in order to try to fill its biggest holes on the roster. While the transfer portal opened on Friday, the Huskers have already drawn a bead on several players, including Owen Chambliss.

Chambliss was one of the best players for Rob Aurich and the San Diego State defense this year. He had a breakout season for the Aztecs in 2025 and was rewarded with selection to the All-Mountain West first team.

The talented linebacker finished with a team-high 110 tackles, 30 more than the next player on the list, and his 62 solo tackles were 22 more than the next player. He had 9.5 tackles for loss, for 63 yards, as well as four sacks, one interception, and one fumble recovery. His 110 total tackles were seventh in the MW.

Owen Chambliss marks first big defensive portal target for Nebraska

Now that the Rob Aurich disciple is in the Transfer Portal, Nebraska is getting the first shot to try to lure him in.

Aurich's hire as the Huskers' defensive coordinator brings about a philosophical shift for the defense, as he runs a 4-2-5. The Huskers have run a 3-3-5 scheme under Matt Rhule, John Butler, and Tony White over the past three seasons.

Chambliss, ranked as the No. 5 linebacker in the portal by Saturday Blitz, will draw interest from plenty of Power 4 teams. However, as he'll be in Lincoln this weekend, Aurich, Rhule, and the rest of the Nebraska staff will be trying to seal the deal before he leaves town.
