For the first time since the 2016 season, the Nebraska football team won’t be home for Christmas and on Sunday, the Huskers found out where it is they will be.

While most NU fans were hoping for the Music City Bowl in Nashville, the loss to Iowa likely knocked them out of the running for that game, unfortunately. Instead, they’re going to Gotham and if they can make it there, they can make it anywhere.

The Nebraska football will face off in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl against the Boston College Eagles on December 28 in New York City. And in doing so, they’ll face off against a familiar face in former Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien.

Nebraska football faces off against old Big Ten coach

O’Brien took over Penn State directly after the Jerry Sandusky saga hit the Nittany Lions full in the face. Crippled with roster and recruiting limits, In 2011, the Huskers traveled to State College in O’Brien’s first season and beat his PSU squad, 17-14. Still, O’Brien had a tough job ahead of him and still managed to keep that program moving forward.

His handling of the situation was good enough that he had several other career paths laid out in front of him, including as the head coach and GM of the Houston Texans, where he was a massive failure. That lead him to come back to the college ranks, most recently as the offensive coordinator for Alabama and then this season, as head coach of Boston College.

Surprisingly enough, while the Nebraska football team might be somewhat familiar with Bill O’Brien, this will be the first time the Huskers and Eagles have ever played each other. That alone might be worth traveling to New York and watching the game, which will take place at Yankee Stadium.
