While the Nebraska football team might not be done seeing its former stars get either drafted or signed as undrafted free agents, a good crop of those who weren’t selected over the weekend have now found their new NFL homes.
Six former Huskers have now signed as UDFA, and adding in Ty Robinson and Thomas Fidone as draft picks, eight of Matt Rhule’s charges are now officially on their way to the league. However, there is one player that hasn’t signed anywhere yet that stands out.
Six Nebraska stars land NFL deals as Tommi Hill waits
Defensive back Tommi Hill was at one point, Nebraska football’s best chance at a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Then he suffered a plantar fasciitis injury to his foot early in the year and never really recovered. And it appears he may still not be fully recovered, considering he was unable to work out either at the combine or Nebraska’s Pro Day.
There were still some who believed that an NFL Team might take a flyer on Hill simply because of the kind of lockdown corner he was before the injury. However, even after six Huskers signed UDFA deals, Hill remains the one who sticks out like a sore thumb.
The most interesting aspect of that is the NFL tends to move quickly on this sort of thing. Social media was rife with announcements of players from all over the country getting new deals. And yet, the Nebraska defensive back is still a free agent.
Meanwhile, WR Isaiah Neyor signed with the San Francisco 49ers, offensive lineman Ben Scott and linebacker John Bullock signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wide receiver Jahmal Banks and defensive lineman Nash Hutmacher signed with the Baltimore Ravens and defensive back Isaac Gifford signed with the Carolina Panthers.
At this point, it appears that NFL teams want to see if the former Nebraska football star is healthy before they offer him any deal. At some point, Tommi Hill will indeed get himself back into playing shape and someone will luck out with quite the steal. But that he’s still out there is surprising, nonetheless.
