Beyond Dylan Raiola: Is another Nebraska football QB ready to shine?

Dylan Raiola's future is bright, but keep an eye on Nebraska football transfer QB Marcos Davila. He's got the arm to be a star.

Nebraska football fans might only think about Dylan Raiola when they think of a star quarterback, but the Huskers might have a budding star waiting in the wings.

One of the more under the radar gets in the transfer portal this year was that budding star quarterback. That Marcos Davila came over from Purdue has tamped down some of the excitement over the young gunslinger. However, if that’s the preconceived notion for why there hasn’t been more excitement about the quarterback, it’s worth rethinking that approach. Certainly his high school coach believes that Davila is the real deal; and he has an arm that will definitely play for the Huskers in the near future.

"He threw a ball, and I said, 'Do that again,'" that coach, Clint Hartman told Rivals’ Steve Marik. "So he threw the ball, and you could just tell — it was a live arm."

Nebraska football QB’s live arm could get playing time sooner than expected

Davila, the kid who showed a very strong arm early in his football career went on to attend Midland Legacy and become a three-year starter. It was a stellar career that resulted in totals like 9,101 career passing yards and 93 touchdowns, both school records.

The 6-foot-3, 233-pound Davila was “only” a 3-star prospect, who was ranked No. 96 overall in Texas and No. 30 pro-style quarterback nationally in the class of 2024. And while he committed to Purdue, he had offers from the likes of TCU, West Virginia, Colorado, Miami (Fla.), Texas A&M and many others.

Davila is under the radar in large part because of Dylan Raiola. But he’s going to be one to watch this spring and this fall. If all goes right for the Nebraska football team’s QB1, he might be leaving Lincoln before the end of his senior year and fans should expect Davila to be an early front-runner to eventually replace him.
