As the Nebraska football team goes further into spring practice and players start standing out more and more, Dana Holgorsen can't keep his eyes off Luke Sorensen. During a recent press conference, the Huskers' offensive coordinator specifically named the freshman tight end as someone who will almost certainly see the field in 2026.

Sorensen measures in at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, and he's already impressed people with how strong he is, even with that big a build. Holgorsen said that strength isn't just about pushing guys around.

"He's powerful. His pad level is low, and he's a 240-pound dude," Nebraska's OC said. "He's going to get a whole lot of looks. If you watch him run, with his power, I don't know how we can keep him off the field."

Nebraska football tight end Luke Sorensen earns strong praise from Dana Holgorsen in spring camp

Luke Lindenmeyer led all tight ends in 2025 with 29 receptions for 312 yards and 2 touchdowns. He's the odds-on favorite to be the starting TE in 2026 in his senior year. Sorensen had 25 catches for 306 yards and three touchdowns as a senior in high school. He averaged more than 30 yards per catch while also adding a rushing touchdown. However, depending on how Holgorsen's offense rolls this fall, Sorensen may be playing himself into consideration for a bunch of playing time in his true freshman season.

Nebraska is entering a make-or-break season in 2026. It stands to reason the Huskers will try everything they can in order to get some wins and get some yards. Holgorsen believes Luke Sorensen could be a secret weapon.
