Nebraska Early Signing Period Tracker: Huskers hope for quality over quantity

The National Signing Day early period is officially upon us. For the first time in more than two decades, the Nebraska football team is staring at a finish in the rankings outside the Top 70. For what appears to be an intentional plan, the Huskers currently have just 10 commits on the books, with No. 10 coming in the form of an Aussie kicker specifically being brought in as a depth player who committed on Tuesday night.

With a roster full of underclassmen and the Huskers' making it clear they plan to spend big money in the transfer portal, only 10 commits is far from the kiss of death in this day and age. It's still unnerving to see so few players locked down and such a low national ranking.

Nebraska currently sits at No. 80 in the Rivals recruiting rankings and likely won't be making any massive leap even if all 10 players sign on the dotted line.

Nebraska enters Early Signing Day with one of the smallest classes in the nation

The good news there is that with that small a class, the Husker coaches have been able to keep the guys that have pledged in line while working on a Top 10 class in the 2027 cycle.

Meanwhile, some of the Nebraska commits have already gone out of their way to make it clear they plan to sign with the Huskers on Wednesday. Wide receivers Nalin Scott and Larry Miles both posted on social media that they're locked in with NU.

That leaves just a few others that will need to be locked down on signing day and then it's time to move to the offseason and a potential rebuilding job despite a second straight bowl trip.

Jamale Rule is officially a Husker

Nebraska's first official signee on Wednesday morning was running back Jamal Rule. This is a big one simply because the Huskers haven't had much luck recruiting the position for whatever reason. He also had a mighty impressive senior year, looking quite a bit like Emmett Johnson in the process.

Larry Miles signs on the dotted line

There wasn't much doubt that the wide receiver out of Florida would sign on Wednesday. He got it out of the way early in the morning and became the second signing of the 2026 class.

Nalin Scott is second wide receiver to sign with Nebraska

Scott, like Miles announced earlier this week he was definitely signing with the Huskers. He followed through on his promise, becoming the third official member of the 2026 signing class.

NU gets its Aussie kicker

Michael Sarikizis was the latest commit of the 2026 class. News broke that Mike Ekeler was continuing to reshape his special teams unit with another player from "down under" on Tuesday evening. He wasted no time making it official, becoming the fourth signee.

Nebraska gets a top ranked defensive back

Danny Odem might be the best get for Matt Rhule and company in the 2026 recruiting class. Of the signees this year, Odem is also the most likely to see regular playing time as a true freshman. He's the real deal.

Homegrown Husker makes it official

Elkhorn native Jase Reynolds picked Nebraska over Kansas State and Northwestern. The linebacker is probably the biggest diamond in the rough, but he's showed plenty of talent over his high school career.

Massive offensive lineman is added to the class

Claude Mpouma might be the next best signee behind Odem. He might also be the best signee. The monster offensive tackle signed with Nebraska over all the best teams in the country.

Another offensive lineman is in the boat

Hayden Ainsworth is a monster interior offensive lineman from Mississippi. The Huskers stole him out from under plenty of SEC schools and he continues NU's attempts to reshape the offensive line.

Arizona lineman comes on board

Rex Waterman becomes the third offensive lineman in the 2026 class. Considering the Huskers are only expecting 10 signees, that's an impressive ratio.

Nebraska wraps up its 2026 recruiting class with Luke Sorensen

Luke Sorensen becomes the 10th and last expected Nebraska signee of the early period. The tight end out of California is the only player at his position in the cycle.

And with that, the Huskers close things out and turn their attention to the transfer portal and a 2027 class that looks like it could be one of the best in the country.
