After a relatively slow start for the Nebraska football program in the transfer portal, things are heating up. The latest sign of a Huskers program willing to spend top dollar for some of the best targets out there is the commitment of Kwazi Gilmer.

Gilmer, a wide receiver who spent the last two seasons at UCLA, announced on Friday afternoon that he was heading to Lincoln. The wideout finished the 2025 season with 50 catches for 535 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Gilmer's numbers are especially impressive when considering the newest addition to Nebraska was toiling away in a Bruins offense that was amongst the worst in the country before head coach DeShaun Foster was fired.

The recruitment of Gilmer was undoubtedly an interesting one. He took official visits to Arizona State, Nebraska, and Washington, and he saw firsthand how volatile the transfer portal can be, especially for NU.

Gilmer was at Nebraska when news broke that Husker portal commit Kenny Minchey was flipping to Kentucky. Then, while he was visiting Washington, news broke that quarterback Demond Williams was jumping into the transfer portal.

Since both of those stories broke, the Huskers landed Anthony Colandrea at quarterback, and the Huskies managed to hold onto Williams.

Despite Williams sticking with Washington, Gilmer still decided Nebraska was a better fit.

Nebraska also certainly knows that the wide receiver can do when he really gets going. As a freshman in 2024, the widout played in 10 games, caught 31 passes and scored twice for the Big Ten program. His first career touchdown came in a win over the Cornhuskers.
