The Nebraska football has benefitted from the transfer portal plenty this year. However, it’s also had a rather odd relationship with it. And there may not be an odder relationship with the portal than the Huskers have had with safety Koby Bretz.
Bretz, who was once considered the “underrated star” of the 2021 defense, entered the portal last week. It was assumed he was all but gone considering the roster crunch the Cornhuskers are going to see once the offseason really kicks into gear. Then, out of the blue, Bretz decided to take his name out of the portal and return to the Huskers.
However, not long after the Nebraska football team finished its Pinstripe Bowl win over Boston College, Bretz entered the portal again. This time with a “do not contact” tag on his profile. As a general rule that means the player knows where he’s going and doesn’t want to be recruited.
Nebraska football sees defender hop in, out and then into the portal
Bretz always seemed like he might be a victim of the roster being cut down to 105 by next fall. It was thought he entered the portal on the advice of Husker coaches.
However, when he took his name out, there was some confusion over the communication between the safety and the coaches. The confusion only got stronger when it was confirmed he was back in the portal.
Now the big question is where the former Nebraska football player ends up. And how long it takes for him to get there.
