Nebraska football extended an offer to a local kid.

On Friday, Nebraska football extended an offer to 2021 three-star safety Koby Bretz.

Bretz is not ranked in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is however ranked in the regular 247Sports rankings as the 182nd safety in his class, and the sixth overall player in his class from the state of Nebraska.

Bretz has a bunch of offers on the table already. In addition to Nebraska, smaller schools have wanted his services. Buffalo, Kansas State, Miami of Ohio, and Northern Illinois have all extended offers his way.

When I watch his film and look at what he brings to the table, he is an aggressive safety. He reads the quarterback’s eyes, comes down, and makes a play. Not only that, he is the perfect size for the safety position. Measuring in at six-foot-two, 185 pounds, he has the speed to be able to cover the field, and the length to stop any potential receivers.

More than just what he brings to the table in terms of skills on the field, he would be an important commitment for the Nebraska football program in the sense that he is a local kid. Nebraska football has been hit or miss in terms of local recruits.

Anytime Nebraska football is able to land a local kid, I certainly put that in the positive category. Landing Bretz would certainly be a good thing in that regard. Scott Frost has to build a little bit better of a proverbial fence around the state of Nebraska, and this would be a good start. Is Bretz a five-star prospect? No, he is not. However, word certainly gets around locally that Nebraska is recruiting hard in the state. This would certainly not be a bad thing, especially if the Huskers want a blue-collar pipeline.

I would certainly be excited to see Nebraska land Bretz. They need athletic safeties in their backfield, and he certainly fits the bill. He has the size and strength to be a playmaker in the Big Ten conference.

When you look at the conference overall, lengthy playmakers in the backfield are what wins football games defensively. Nebraska has been doing a good job in the last couple of classes at trying to land them. Do they still have more work to do in that area? Yes, absolutely they do. However, they have established a good starting point here.
