The Nebraska football team is hoping it gets one more present for Christmas. There’s already the present of getting ready for a bowl game for the first time in eight years. But once that’s over, it’s time to turn to 2025.

Matt Rhule and company would love to ring in the new year sporting yet another transfer to compliment the addition of Nyziah Hunter, who they grabbed from the Cal Golden Bears last week. If the recruiting rumblings are accurate, it’s possible Santa might give them Dane Key just ahead of Christmas Day.

On Monday, reports started flying around the internet that the Nebraska football target was ready to pull the trigger on his commitment. There was a chance it was going down on December 23 but the day came and went without his pledge. That could mean he’s pulling the trigger on December 24. Or he’ll wait until after the Holiday to make his pick.

Nebraska football Dane Key commitment could be imminent

According to those in and around the Kentucky Wildcats, it looks like it’s a three team race for Dane Key. Illinois, the Huskers and Georgia are said to be the favorites.

There was also talk that he might return to Kentucky, However, insiders don’t believe that’s really a possibility. They added that the teams he’s talked up most were Illinois and the Cornhuskers and of course, NU has been hoping that the addition of Key’s position coach at UK, Daikiel Shorts might seal the deal.

It’s also worth noting that both On3 and 247Sports experts believe he’s a shoo-in to head to Georgia. So the talk about Nebraska football and Illinois is surprising. We’ll see if that ends up being the case.
