Nebraska football might be a long shot when it comes to landing 5-star offensive tackle Kennedy Brown, but the Huskers are in the fight. The problem is the programs NU is competing with for the No. 4 player in the entire 2027 class.
According to On3, Brown has about six schools that are getting the most attention. While the Cornhuskers are among them, they've got their work cut out for it against Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Oregon and Texas A&M.
The worst news is that Nebraska isn't considered a frontrunner. Analysts who have spoken with Kennedy Brown believe two teams are leading the way. Oregon and Texas A&M are, for the moment, considered the programs to beat for the No. 4 player, No. 2 offensive tackle, and No. 2 player in Texas, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.
Nebraska's uphill battle for 5-star OT Kennedy Brown against Oregon and Texas A&M
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound lineman's interest in Texas A&M is obvious. The Aggies have hosted Brown for a dozen visits over the last year, including a significant trip to College Station for a junior day event last month. Meanwhile, Oregon offensive line coach A'lique Terry has used a long-standing family connection to keep the Ducks at the forefront of this high-profile recruitment. Brown's uncle previously coached Terry in high school, fostering a bond that extends beyond typical recruiting pitches.
Nebraska isn't scared off by strong competition. They're going after the best offensive linemen in the 2027 class over and over. Clearly, Matt Rhule and his staff are hoping the addition of Geep Wade can make a difference. How much ground they cover with Kennedy Brown is one big indicator of how well things are going.
