Nebraska football fans just got a hefty dose of the new era of college sports this week. Wide receiver Jaidyn Doss entered the portal long before it would typically be allowed.

Doss utilized a new loophole in the rules established by the revised House vs. NCAA settlement. Doss was among those who would have been cut from the Huskers once the 105-man roster limits went into full effect. The judge overseeing the case insisted that a grandfather clause was inserted, protecting any players who wanted to stay with their old schools. The settlement also allowed these "grandfathered" players to have a special portal window this summer, and it's that window that Doss used. It could only be used because he was designated as a potential casualty.

Nebraska football transfer portal: Jaidyn Doss likely bolting for Kansas after roster squeeze

Now it looks like the former Nebraska football player who moved from receiver to defensive back and then back to receiver this spring has found his new home. Pete Nakos first reported that Doss could be headed to a Big 12 program shortly after he entered the portal.

Talk around the water cooler is that the Big 12 team showing the most interest in the former Husker is the Kansas Jayhawks. While there are other teams in the mix, the Jayhawks look like front-runners.

Obviously, with just weeks until teams start fall camp, Doss and wherever he lands want to get this done quickly. This likely won't be a process where he takes a ton of official visits and has a list that needs to be cut down.

The former Nebraska football player could find his new home in the next few days. When he does, he'll be one of the first to take advantage of rules that simply didn't exist before prior to the last few weeks. A new era of college sports, indeed.
