Now that the 2024 Nebraska football season is officially over with the Pinstripe Bowl win, it’s time to start focusing on what the team will look like in 2025.
While the Huskers have been working to reload a roster that lost several players due to the transfer portal, it appears as though the team might be able to hold onto at least one veteran linebacker for one more season. At least if Javin Wright’s position coach gets his way.
The senior has been through a lot in his Nebraska football career, including blood clot issues that cut into the start of 2024. He also got to play in just two games in 2021 due to physical setbacks. The latter connects to something linebackers coach Rob Dvoracek mentioned on the bowl site while doing an interview with the Huskers Radio Network.
Nebraska football could get veteran linebacker for one more season
"It's been a long year for him ... obviously some injury things he's been dealing with," Dvoracek said. "He's been here for a long time too so for him to go out there and play in a game like this – a meaningful bowl game – it's really cool for him. And we're working on him coming back next year, so that will be good."
Wright led the Huskers with 8 tackles in the Pinstripe Bowl and finished the season with 34 tackles after notching 51 stops a year ago. If he does come back, he could be to 2025 what Ty Robinson’s return was for 2024. A veteran defender looking for just one more season to lead the Blackshirts to another level.
For now, it’s just a situation to watch as nothing is certain. But because of COVID and injuries, the Nebraska football team seems to think there’s a shot of one more year. That would be a massive boon for the Huskers.
