Nebraska football looking to welcome back linebacker from 'medical condition'
While the Nebraska football team gets ready for the game on Saturday morning against Purdue, the Huskers look like they’re starting to get a little healthier. While they have lost Turner Corcoran for the foreseeable future, NU might be getting a few reinforcements on the defensive side of the ball.
Chief among those is a linebacker who hasn’t been able to play a snap yet this season. While there’s no guarantee that Javin Wright will be back this weekend, it looks like he’s getting closer to returning to the field.
Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule spoke about a few injured players on Wednesday evening and specifically mentioned Wright as someone he’s becoming more optimistic about. During his time on Sports Nightly, Rhule divulged that linebacker Javin Wright is getting closer to being available to play again.
"Javin is getting closer to playing,” Rhule said. “Potentially this week. If not this week, next week. A lot of things have to come to pass for him to be able to play.”
Nebraska football could be getting linebacker for Purdue game
Two weeks before the Huskers officially kicked off the regular season, Rhule announced Wright, - who has a history of blood clot issues - was dealing with a "health condition" and would be out indefinitely.
On Wednesday night, Rhule still didn’t shed any light on what the medical condition was, though it stands to reason, especially with the “things have to come to pass” that it migth be blood clots again.
His cryptic comment definitely sounds like it might be an issue where doctors have to make sure the linebacker is responding to treatment and medication correctly.
Wright, a 6-foot-5, 230-pounder, was tied for second on the team in tackles last season with 51. He’s a sixth year player who had been hoping to be a veteran presence in the starting rotation. He might finally be able to do that for the Nebraska football team against Purdue.
