Wright is a name to watch for Nebraska Football.

Spring ball is almost here, and there are several positions that remain question marks for Nebraska football. One position that leads to no questions whatsoever is linebacker. Linebacker is one of the deepest positions in the program.

Earlier this week, Sean Callahan HuskerOnline.com did a preview of the linebacker position. As he noted, this position is deep. There are several big names that I personally have talked about over the past couple of weeks. However, there is one name that is flying under the radar a bit. Javin Wright would be that player.

Now, I have talked about him a little bit on this site, and have noted that his athleticism could be an asset for Nebraska football. However, it appears he is making strides this spring. This is certainly good news to hear. Nebraska football certainly doesn’t need Wright to step up and be a huge factor. However, he could have the opportunity to find a role on the defense and succeed. At the linebacker position in particular, Nebraska has the luxury of mixing and matching players.

With these strides that Wright is making, he could be a name that could pop up at the position. The legacy player could end up making a name for himself. As Callahan notes, Wright has been putting in the work in this spring, and it sounds like he is trending in the right direction.

"The Husker legacy recently shared on social media he’s now up to 6-4 1/2, 210-pounds. He added over an inch of height and 30 pounds since arriving at NU in 2019. Wright was a tweener when he got here, and it appears outside linebacker could be his permanent home."

I’ll be interested to see what he does. It sounds like he has done all the right things in order to try and get some playing time. Adding weight in particular is enormous. Nebraska football needs their linebackers to be versatile, and adding that weight could help him in that area. With his height, that could huge asset for Nebraska at the position.

He is certainly a player that I will be watching as spring practices began. Of course, I’ll be looking for all the big names too. Spring ball is a chance for meet a look at all the smaller names, and follow them closely as they progress. I’m excited to see what Wright can do, as I’ve always thought he has a ton of potential.
