When you can try and land the son of one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game, you’ve gotta do it. That is almost certainly what went through Matt Rhule and the rest of the Nebraska football offensive coaching staff’s mind when they issued an official offer to Cooper Witten.
The Huskers entered the race for the son of former Dallas Cowboys star Jason Witten last week and the good news here is that because he’s a 2027 prospect, they’ll have plenty of time to try and make some headway.
Witten is the top safety in the 2027 class and the fourth-best player in his class from the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. His stock continues to rise, as he has 21 scholarship offers, so the Nebraska football team is going to have its work cut out for them.

Nebraska football offers former NFL great’s son
Cooper currently plays for his dad’s high school team. Jason Witten is the head coach of Liberty Christian in Texas where the team has gone 38-11 with back-to-back State championships in 2023 and 2024.
Cooper’s brother, CJ was a three-star linebacker and signed with the Rice Owls in the 2025 class. Last year, playing as a safety, Cooper recorded 45 tackles and an impressive 5 interceptions according to Max Preps.
Now that the Nebraska football team has its foot in the door with Cooper Witten, it’s time to take the next step. An unofficial visit this spring would be ideal, but locking him in next fall should at least be on the table.
