As the transfer portal season starts to heat up ahead of its official opening on January 2, two former Nebraska high school stars will be looking for new teams. Zane Flores and Anthony Rezac demonstrate how much more talent is coming out of the state, while also showing just how many players will be looking for greener pastures next month.
Flores was a strong-armed quarterback out of Gretna who was given a 3-star rating by On3 in the 2023 class. While he didn't get an offer from the Huskers, Kansas State, Missouri, Washington, and Oklahoma State all offered, as well as other schools. He eventually chose the Cowboys and was the team's starter for most of the 2025 season. He's now made it clear he's looking for a new team as a new coaching staff takes over in Stillwater.
Rezac was a member of the 2024 class and was one of the better quarterbacks for Nebraska high school powerhouse Omaha Westside. While he garnered offers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, he didn't have any Power 4 offers. Eventually, he chose to walk on at Notre Dame, joining his brother, linebacker Teddy Rezac.
Former Nebraska prep quarterbacks Zane Flores and Anthony Rezac plan to enter portal
Anthony, having not seen the field in 2025, decided to move on and will look for a new team to play for in 2026.
Outside of a walk-on offer, it is unlikely that either Flores or Rezac will return to their home state of Nebraska. However, it will certainly be interesting to see where they end up. Flores, who threw for 1,490 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions as a redshirt freshman while also running for 117 yards and 2 more TDs, could find himself in a G5 program, looking to get a fresh start.
