A few months ago, it seemed as if the Nebraska football team had lost the fight for one of the best players in the state. As it turns out, this weekend, the Huskers will have a chance to win Round 2.

4-star tight end from Millard South is the state's top recruit in the 2025 class and normally that would mean that Chase Loftin was headed to Lincoln for his college days. The Huskers obviously wanted to haul him in and add him to their class. But he picked Florida State earlier this year.

Then, the Nebraska football team won some games, they almost won a big one against Ohio State. Meanwhile, Florida State went 1-7 and suddenly, it looks like the Seminoles could be losing their grip on their class. At least they're losing their handle on Loftin.

Nebraska football has second chance to rope in state's top player

Rivals' Greg Smith reported on Sunday evening that Loftin is now planning a trip to see the Huskers and take in another game experience. And he's doing it soon. In fact, he's doing it for the game against UCLA.

Loftin taking the visit to Lincoln this weekend is an indicator of several things. For one, the Florida State season seems to be falling apart in more ways than one. The Seminoles already had a decommit in the form of 4-star wide recevier CJ Wiley on Sunday.

It's a safe bet more commits are going to at least be looking elsewhere. A 1-7 season for head coach Mike Norvell seems to be hinting that it will be his last in Tallahassee.

It makes sense that Loftin is taking another look at the Nebraska football program before he signs on with FSU and then the coach he thought he was playing for is fired. Things should be interesting this weekend. Especially if the Huskers can clinch their first bowl game since 2016.
