A four-star defensive back has set his commitment date. Unfortunately, when Devin Jackson will make the official announcement on Thursday, July 3, at 11:00 a.m. CT in his hometown of Winter Garden, Florida, it doesn’t appear as though he’s going to be picking the Huskers. Though with the roll that the Cornhuskers are on recruiting wise, there’s always a chance something can change between now and the end of the week.

Jackson is rated as a 4-star defensive back prospect who racked up 80 tackles, 7 PBU, 2 INT, 2 FR and 1 FF across 10 games in his junior season. Now, he’ll be picking between finalists that include the Huskers, as well as Florida, LSU, Miami, Nebraska and Oregon.

Oregon surge leaves Nebraska football on the outside for elite Florida safety Devin Jackson

Considering he’s coming from the Sunshine State, some might think he’ll stick with the Florida Gators. After all, he was committed to the SEC power for quite a while.

Then other teams, including head coach Matt Rhule’s squad got into the fight. However, it looks like Nebraska may have lost some ground in this fight. The Oregon Ducks are now considered the front runner and after Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction for Dan Lanning’s crew, it doesn’t seem all that close.

Jackson is listed as the No. 14-ranked safety and the No. 19-ranked prospect in the state of Florida according to the On3 recruiting ratings. Nebraska football's class of 2026 holds nine commitments and is ranked No. 52 nationally and No. 18 in the Big Ten. However, it’s expected to see several commitments in the next couple of weeks. While they’d love to add Jackson to that group, this one appears to be a win for the bad guys.
